Embracing Current Home Design Trends: What’s In and What Works for You

Home design trends are constantly evolving, and staying updated can be both exciting and overwhelming. In this blog post, we’ll explore some of the current trends in colors, kitchens, staging or transitioning your home for sale, exterior home design, and bathroom design. Remember, while it’s great to know what’s trending, always prioritize what you love and what works best for your lifestyle.

Colors: Moving Beyond Greys

The color palette in home design is shifting away from the cool greys of recent years. Instead, we’re seeing a resurgence of warmth and depth in colors:

  • Rich Blues and Greens: From light hues to deep, moody shades, blues and greens are making a statement. They work well as accent walls, adding character and depth to a room.
  • Pantone Color of the Year: Peach Fuzz brings warmth and vibrancy. It’s a versatile color that can be incorporated into various elements of your home design.
  • Future Dusk: A deep, dark color reminiscent of the night sky, leaning towards purple, is gaining popularity for its dramatic yet elegant appeal. This color is projected to be the color of the year for 2025.
  • Persimmon: Named color of the year by HGTV and Sherwin Williams, this earthy terracotta shade pairs beautifully with soft tans and whites.

Best Neutrals for Staging or Transitioning

Trending colors is not always best when selling especially when they are bold or vibrant. An accent wall can work sometimes but it is best to have a clean, bright, blank canvas to appeal to the largest number of buyers. So I suggest keeping it neutral. When it comes to neutrals that work well for staging or transitioning your home, here are some of my favorite options:

  • Pashmina by Benjamin Moore
  • Accessible Beige by Sherwin Williams
  • Knitting Needles by Sherwin Williams
  • Pale Oak by Benjamin Moore
  • Natural Linen by Sherwin Williams
  • Alabaster by Sherwin Williams
  • Swiss Coffee by Sherwin Williams

Definitely compare neutrals with the tons already in the home because they can pull very different tons when up against a variety of colors and lighting in your space.

Kitchens: Embracing Warmth and Functionality

In kitchen design, we’re seeing a departure from purely white cabinets and a move towards warmth, color, and functionality:

  • Cabinets: Wood and painted cabinets are gaining popularity for their warmth and versatility. White cabinets remain timeless, but don’t hesitate to explore other options that resonate with your style.
  • Hardware: Mixing and matching metals adds visual interest and allows for flexibility in design. It’s a great way to tie together different elements in your kitchen.
  • Natural Woods: Incorporating natural wood elements, such as bar stools or accents, adds texture and warmth without a complete kitchen overhaul.
  • Other Trends: Hidden appliances, open shelves, butcher block counters, more color in backsplashes or accents, wallpaper, curved elements, and high-tech appliances are trending for their functionality and aesthetic appeal.

Exterior Home Trends: Enhancing Curb Appeal

Exterior home design is all about creating a welcoming first impression:

  • Siding: Mixed materials like stone accents or wood cladding are popular for adding texture and visual interest.
  • Front Doors: Statement front doors in bold colors or natural wood finishes make a strong impact.
  • Landscaping: Low-maintenance, drought-resistant plants and native landscaping are eco-friendly and visually appealing.
  • Outdoor Living: Functional outdoor spaces with seating, fire pits, and cooking areas extend the usable space of your home.

Bathroom Trends: Spa-like Retreats

Bathroom design trends focus on creating relaxing, spa-like retreats:

  • Freestanding Tubs: Statement tubs in modern or vintage styles are popular for creating a luxurious feel.
  • Walk-In Showers: Large, open showers with rainfall showerheads and built-in benches offer a spa-like experience.
  • Natural Elements: Incorporating natural materials like stone, wood, and plants adds warmth and relaxation.
  • Smart Features: High-tech toilets, smart mirrors, and integrated sound systems bring convenience and luxury to the bathroom.

Embrace What You Love

Ultimately, the key to navigating home design trends is to embrace what you love. Trends come and go, but your personal style and comfort should always take precedence. Whether you’re updating your kitchen, enhancing your curb appeal, or creating a spa-like bathroom retreat, choose elements that reflect your personality and make you feel at home. If you are doing updates to your home with the intent to sell in the near future, let’s connect. I can help to point you towards selections that will get you the most return!
